What Advice Do You Have for Coaching Younger Kids?

View Transcript

For the younger kids, it's teaching times two. You've got to stress that skill, pull them over, describe the inappropriate, describe the appropriate of what they do. And it may be as simple as running a lap or taking time out to think about that. We use that a lot. Even here at our high school level, one of the things we do when we teach skills to our kids, on the football field, sometimes we have a kid actually go and take a seat at the fence and think about that for a minute or two and then bring them right back to practice. But our coaches do a great job of quickly telling them, "Hey. Here's the skill. Here's what you need to do. Think about it for a minute or so and then I want you to come back to practice and do it with high energy."
