If a crisis occurs but my child doesn't want to talk about it is that OK?

If a crisis occurs, an accident, a natural disaster, a shooting, something like that, and you ask your child and he or she just doesn't seem to want to talk right now, that's okay. It can take kids a while to process and be ready to say something, so give your child some time - give it a couple of hours, give it a day or so. Go back and ask again. Sometimes once a kid has had a chance to think about it, they may be more willing to open up to you.
