How is giving a reward to children for positive behavior different from bribery?

Bribery and rewards really are different. When you’re bribing somebody, usually you're giving them something in advance to do something. Rewards don't work that way. Rewards are a reward that happen after the behavior. So I see bribery as someone's getting some type of reward to do something, whereas I see rewards as you're giving something based off of the behaviors that are already done. So rewards come after the fact, bribery is before the behaviors. That's where I see the main difference.

Bribery usually does not work well with kids because they'll take those rewards, and the majority of the time, you don't see what they were supposed to put in for receiving that reward. That's why we always save the rewards for after the behaviors. Once they do it, then they get the rewards, and that's what I see as the main difference between bribery and rewards.
