Unwanted Touching

Is inappropriate touching making life miserable for you, your child and his or her friends? Put an end to unwanted touching with these parenting tips:

  • Teach good behaviors that your child can “put on” like a pair of clothes to replace the bad behavior you want her to “put off.” When your child wants to tap or tickle a friend or classmate, teach him to put his hands in his pockets instead.
  • Tell him to put his “handcuffs” on. When he feels like touching someone else, train him to put his hands behind his back and hold his wrists instead.
  • Practice the good behaviors and “handcuffs” when he’s by himself so the action will feel more natural when he’s tempted to start touching.
