Top 5 Reasons Why Meal Time Is Important

According to a recent Harris poll survey*, 95% of parents of children under the age of 18 strongly/somewhat agree that it is important to have regular family meals together. We couldn’t agree more! Mealtime is important because:

  • It provides an opportunity for family members to catch up on each other’s life happenings.
  • Families can talk about schedules and events for the week, making sure activities are coordinated and everyone has transportation.
  • Parents can teach group decision-making and communication skills to their children.
  • Everyone can learn and practice mealtime manners.
  • Every family member can help create and develop family traditions; this makes kids feel important and included.
  • *This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Poll on behalf of Boys Town from January 21-23, 2015 among 2,057 adults ages 18 and older. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
