Dear Children of Boys Town,
I can’t believe it has been a year since we first became family. From my first night here at Boys Town in Father Flanagan’s bed until this very moment, I have been honored and humbled to be a part of your lives, and the caretaker of his dream: to change the way America cares for its children and families.
We are all so proud of each one of you, and the work you have done to get better. One of the most impressive things we have seen is how Father Flanagan’s dream is alive in your own lives. You are changing and growing in ways you could not imagine before you came to Boys Town. You not only work on your own development, but you take the time to help out your Boys Town brothers and sisters. You pick up your sister when she falls. You encourage each other to keep trying. When our boys basketball team took to the court for their state championship game last fall, every player on the team wore shoes that had been signed by every team member. They won as a team of brothers.
We’ve all seen our famous Boys Town logo that of one child carrying another and the famous words that accompany it - “He ain’t heavy, Father… he’s my brother.” Those words and the feelings they inspire are as true today as they were the day they were first uttered to Father Flanagan. You are brothers and sisters, and we are all members of the Boys Town family.
As you move forward into your futures, my hopes and dreams for you are that you will take our family with you wherever you go. We are so blessed to be a part of this great family of Boys Town. Know that I pray for you every day.
Yours in family and faith,
Father Steven E. Boes,
National Executive Director
