Easter Reflections

The promise of Easter comes alive in the children of Boys Town.  As new life bursts forth this spring, it also does in the lives of our hurting children.  Thank you for helping their promise of a new life come true.

Three years ago, I was bouncing in and out of homes all across the country.  I hated everyone.  That was the only emotion that I knew.  I was numb to everything.  I don’t even remember most of the bad things I did.  Since coming here, I finally gave up fighting the kindness of people.  It is Easter for me.

My religion teacher told me the story of Easter joy.  She said it is a story of how God uses broken things.  I began to think of how God is using the brokenness of my life.  For the first time in many, many years, I am happy in the springtime and I welcome Easter.  I am a little girl who smiles again.

I remember when my dad told us kids that he didn’t want to be with us anymore and that he was leaving the family and had no plans to return.  My world fell apart.  I gave up hope.  I have been at Boys Town for nine months.  This is the first springtime in years where I have found hope.  It sure feels good.

I was only a little girl, five years old, when my mom chose beer and boyfriends over me.  She gave me up.  She said that I was a burden.  I have been at Boys Town for one year.  If Jesus could suffer so much and find Easter joy, I finally began to think I could, too.  I am happy for the first time in years.
