AFI Dallas International Film Festival Honors “Boys Town”

With cameras flashing, Boys Town Executive Director Father Steven Boes and actor Mickey Rooney celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the film “Boys Town” with a special screening at the 2008 AFI Dallas international Film Festival. Accompanied by numerous Boys Town alumni and supporters, they made their way down the red carpet last weekend at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas.

Rooney was also honored with an AFI Dallas Star Award before the screening. Having done more than 240 films and more than 70 television shows, the 87-year-old entertainer was honored for his role in “Boys Town,” and his role shaping the face of modern cinema and the advancement of the art of film. The event commemorated the 70th Anniversary of the film “Boys Town,” and Boys Town’s 90th Anniversary celebrations.

Rooney said his role in "Boys Town" stands out among his favorites for the simple reason: “It’s real and honest.”

The eleven-day AFI DALLAS International Film Festival, which runs March 27 to April 6, features international films from emerging filmmakers; the latest work from great film masters and star-studded red carpet gala premieres which include all attending filmmakers, stars and members of the international media.
