New Orleans Saint Jimmy Graham's Build a Bike Event for Boys Town Louisiana Youth

Jimmy Graham, better known as number 80 of the New Orleans Saints Football team, held a Build a Bike event for Boys Town Louisiana youth on Dec. 23, 2014 at Belle Chasse Air Force Base. Every year, Jimmy holds a Build a Bike event for youth involved with local non-profits, and this year, he decided to work with Boys Town Louisiana. He gave the opportunity to 32 youth to receive and make customized bicycles.

“Jimmy began the evening with a moving speech, describing his upbringing and how his experiences were similar to youth in our Boys Town programs,” said Rashain Carriere, Sr. Director of Program Operations, Boys Town Louisiana. “He was very encouraging, motivating and personable, engaging in one-on-one conversations with youth.”

Rita Benson-Leblanc, the owner of the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans also was there and spoke personally to the youth and staff. Youth were able to add pieces to customize the bikes that were preassembled with the basics. At the end of the evening, the youth were testing out their new rides in the parking lot, riding around with delight.

Jimmy autographed bikes and helmets and took pictures with the youth and their families. Many were star struck by Jimmy, including one grandmother who had Jimmy sign her shirt. She decided to frame the shirt to remember Jimmy’s generosity to the youth and families of Boys Town Louisiana.

“We are very grateful to Mr. Graham and the New Orleans Saints for putting on such a wonderful event and including Boys Town Louisiana,” said Rashain. “It was such a pleasure to see the faces of youth and families receiving their bikes and meeting Jimmy Graham. Thank you Jimmy Graham; Boys Town Louisiana hopes to continue collaborating in the future!”
