Our Alternative Public School

Boys Town New York
The Boys Town New York Alternative Public School provides the right setting for youth under our care to advance in their academic studies, while continuing their treatment plans throughout the school day. The Willoughby School, located in Brooklyn, is attended by youth from both our Short- and Long-term residential homes, ages 10-17 years of age. At Boys Town, our students are grouped by ability, not age, so they can make great progress thanks to a literacy-based curriculum tailored to their current needs.
As the Executive Director of Boys Town New York, I am immensely proud of the strides these young men and women make at our school and of our dedicated teachers and staff that make it possible. We have seven Boys Town staff members working alongside nine NYC Department of Education-certified teachers, who are all trained in the Boys Town well-managed classroom model and provide a positive, structured learning environment for students. Each boy and girl has an Individual Education Plan that is developed to work in conjunction with their treatment plan and incorporates a holistic approach to ensure the best outcomes for youth. – Cynthia Armijo.
Our model has been shown to increase student time-on-tasks and provide faculty with a whole school approach to classroom management. Since 1979, Boys Town has been providing training and program development services to educators schools and districts. The Boys Town educational model, time-tested and effective.
