Dodgeball Classic Fun for all Ages

Team “F” didn’t need Patches O’Houlihan to teach them the “five D’s” of dodgeball when they won the first annual Boys Town New York Dodgeball Classic on May 15.

“This past Saturday's dodgeball tournament was a tremendous success,” said Cindy Armijo, Boys Town New York Executive Director. “The Prospect Park YMCA provided the perfect venue for both our youth and members of the community to come together for a day of dodgeball, food, fun and prizes.  This is a great example of how we bring the community to Boys Town and the kids to the community.”

The Classic was hosted by Boys Town New York’s Young Leadership Committee, a group of young professionals committed to furthering the goals of Boys Town New York through philanthropy, volunteerism and advocacy.  Six teams of six, comprised of young professionals and Boys Town New York youth, ducked, dipped, dived and dodged to support children and families of New York, while more than 40 people attended to cheer them on.

The event was a tremendous success.  The Young Leadership Committee raised more than $3,000 and secured donations for the food and event t-shirts which were enjoyed by everyone who attended.  In addition, the young professionals were able to see firsthand the work Boys Town New York does for the community as they were able to meet the youth and Boys Town staff, and have fun while doing it.

“I am excited that this group of young professionals is interested in supporting Boys Town and were given the opportunity to spend some quality time with our youth and staff,” said Karen Brady, Boys Town New York Development Director.  “I think everyone who participated had a great day and got a great workout!”
