Senator Whitehouse Visits Boys Town New England

Boys Town New England youth, Cory, and staff give Senator Whitehouse a tour of the facility's campus.

Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse visited with youth and families at Boys Town New England Monday, August 23. This visit was the senator's first time to the campus.

Boys Town youth Cory, 13, led the senator on the tour around the campus. Cory was chosen to give the tour based on his motivating work ethic. He walked with the senator and took him to three of the homes on campus. The senator spoke with boys and girls at all three homes, as well as the Family-Teachers for each home.

Meeting individuals like Senator Whitehouse is extremely beneficial for Boys Town youth because it allows them to see what’s possible for their own futures. It also gives them an opportunity to practice the social skills they’ve learned in the Boys Town programs.

"We are honored to host Senator Whitehouse at our Boys Town New England campus," said Bill Reardon, Boys Town New England Executive Director, who also accompanied the Senator on his tour.

In 2006, Whitehouse was elected to the United State Senate. He currently serves on the Special Committee on Aging, Budget Committee, the Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), Judiciary Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence. He chairs the Judiciary Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts and EPW Subcommittee on Oversight.
