Ultimate Fighters Joe ‘Daddy’ Stevenson, Rashad ‘Sugar’ Evans, Don House, MMA Trainer Marc Laimon, Phil Baroni, and Jay Heiron all have something in common – the desire to make a difference in the lives of children in need. While tough inside the octagon, the fighters have a soft spot for the youth and families at Boys Town Nevada. In a growing 6 year tradition, mixed martial artists like Joe ‘Daddy’ Stevenson have made yearly visits to the kids. The athletes bring holiday gift cards, autographed shirts, hats, and pizza, but more important is the message of hope.

“I didn’t have a lot growing up,” said Rashad Evans. “At times, it was tough not being able to have new clothes or the things that my friends had. I always believed in myself and I never let the harmful words of other people hurt me. The most important lesson I learned was to always love yourself. It was difficult when I was younger, but that’s what helped to make me a champion.”

Each Fighter spent a few minutes addressing the crowd of Boys Town children about the personal and professional hardships they have overcome in their own lives to be successful. When the speeches were finished, everyone had the opportunity to take pictures and receive a Target gift card.

“I’ve been coming to speak at Boys Town for many years now,” said MMA Fighter Don House. “It’s always such an incredible experience because the children end up inspiring me. Hearing their stories and seeing the hope and joy in their lives makes me realize what a phenomenal organization this truly is.”

Executive Director Tom Waite stated, “We are again, so grateful that the UFC Fighters take time out of their hectic schedules to share their lives and stories with our children. Their encouraging words inspire our youth to always strive to do their best, no matter what happens in their lives."

“Meeting Rashad Evans was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had," said Dave, a 14-year-old Boys Town youth. "I couldn’t have asked for a better holiday surprise.”
