Journey of Hope Great Success for Children and Families

Guests of Boys Town Nevada’s 6th annual Journey of Hope were welcomed to the Red Rock Hotel and Casino May 20, by youth, who reminiscent of the early 1900s, were dressed in period costumes.

Complete with newsboy caps and newspapers, Boys Town Nevada youth captured the era of Boys Town’s founding while engaging guests in the evening’s event. While attendees mingled, numerous children shared Boys Town’s history as well as information about its current programs. The youth even kicked-off the formal program by performing the song ‘Seize the Day’ from the Disney musical, The Newsies.

“This year’s event was really exciting because we had a lot more kids involved,” said Tom Waite, Boys Town Nevada Executive Director. “We wanted this year to be more of a celebration. The kids were thrilled to participate and the guests loved it.”

Hosted by Dave Courvoisier and auctioneer Christian Kolberg, the Journey of Hope program continued with youth, Adam sharing his experience in the Treatment Family Home program. Adam and his two younger brothers spent time at Boys Town Nevada and after two years, Adam is a thriving success.

Next on the evening’s agenda was the 2010 HOPE award presentation to honoree, Carolyn Goodman. Goodman is known as a champion for youth and advocate for education in the Las Vegas community. Deeply committed to children and education, Goodman spoke about the value and benefit of Boys Town Nevada and its programs.

Departing from the typical live and silent auction gala format, the 6th annual Journey of Hope event ended with the Help, Healing and Hope auction. Instead of bidding on items, attendees pledged their financial support to “Help” with a $500 donation, provide “Healing” with a $1000 donation or “Hope” with a $2500 donation. For each level, former Boys Town Nevada youth, Trace read what a donation of that amount provides, like school supplies for a home, a year of clothing for a child or a year of therapy services for a youth.

Thanks to a successful evening, more Boys Town Nevada youth will find the help, healing and hope they need.
