In-Home Family Services Matching Campaign

The Lincy Foundation has challenged the community to donate by agreeing to match dollar-for-dollar every donation received for the In-Home Family services program up to $200,000.00. When the Lied Foundation Trust granted Boys Town Nevada $250,000.00 to keep families in crisis together, they did so in hopes that their generosity would inspire others. The Foundation challenged the Las Vegas community to join them in donating to Boys Town’s life-changing In-Home Family program. Even in this harsh economic climate, amidst layoffs and dwindling budgets, their call was heard and answered. In December of 2009, encouraged by the quarter-million dollar Lied grant, The Engelstad Family Foundation made their own $250,000.00 donation to help keep struggling families in our community together. Days later, the Lincy Foundation followed with another generous grant of $200,000.00.

"The outpouring of support from the Las Vegas community to fund Boys Town Nevada’s In-Home Family Services program has been truly overwhelming," said Tom Waite, Executive Director of Boys Town Nevada. "In this era of fiscal crisis, prevention programs are the most cost-effective approach to serious societal problems. The current economic condition is placing additional stress on many families due to joblessness, underemployment, etc. Boys Town’s researched In-Home Services program strengthens families, keeps them together in difficult times, and helps to alleviate the endless flow of youth into the foster care system. We feel privileged and honored to be associated with so many wonderful foundations and joined in our efforts to heal hurting families."

Since its inception in 2005, Boys Town’s In-Home Family Services department has helped 1,891 hurting families in Southern Nevada. The intensive program focuses on increasing parental capabilities, use of effective discipline, creating structure, use of a motivational system, and connecting families to community resources to strengthen family unity. Struggling families can gain the strength, skills, and resources to solve problems, deal with its members effectively and improve their sense of health and well–being.

Notably, the department has achieved numerous impressive outcomes. 93 percent of families that have completed this program since 2005 have stayed together and 99 percent of all families would refer other families to the program. As unemployment and foreclosure rates continue to soar, there has been a 39 percent increase in families requesting services, compared to 2008. More than 25 families currently remain on a waiting list.
