Boys Town Nevada Supporters Go the Extra Mile
Boys Town Nevada supporters, youth and staff hit the ground running March 20 to participate in the organization’s “Running for Hope” event.
Offering participants the opportunity to run either a 5k or 10k, or take a 1-mile “fun walk,” this family-friendly event introduced many to the Boys Town Nevada campus and its youth.
“This year, we had a great mix of participants,” said Tom Waite, Boys Town Nevada Executive Director. “They ranged from athletic running enthusiasts to people who came out just to support our organization by participating in the 1-mile fun walk around our Treatment Family Homes.”
Las Vegas’ 107.9 kept the energy up throughout the race, but it was truly the youth and mission of Boys Town Nevada that motivated participants.
“I trained for the 10K with my Family-Teachers for weeks before the race, so it felt really great to push myself and finish first place in my division,” said Rey, a Boys Town Nevada youth. “This is the second year I’ve participated in “Running for Hope” and I just love it. I hope we can continue to have events like this in the future.”
Having the children there walking and running alongside them showed the strength of family and community at Boys Town Nevada, as well as gave participants the chance to get to know the kids.
“The event was very exciting and we were so grateful to everyone who came out and supported us,” said Erika Christensen, Boys Town Nevada Donor Relations Specialist. “It was definitely a fun way to show the people of Las Vegas all of our services and what we do to save children and heal families in Nevada.”
