Boys Town Nevada Christmas Community Open House
Boys Town Nevada kicked off the holiday season with its third annual Hot Cocoa and Cookies Open House on Thursday, December 8.
Guests, including families and youth, kept cozy with hot cocoa and cookies baked by the Boys Town Nevada staff as they gathered to admire the light displays of each of the campus’s five Family-Teaching homes.
The free event was open to the public, and visitors were encouraged to participate in the Open House by visiting the homes throughout the evening. Community members, board members, teachers, principals, donors and families came to the campus to tour the homes and spend time with the Boys Town Nevada youth.
“All the homes were beautifully decorated by the youth, and each home had a different hot chocolate bar,” said Amanda Gibbs, Boys Town Nevada Development Director. “A lot of love went into the decorations and set up. This event is a great way to see what Boys Town is all about, but also a fun way to spend time together during the holiday giving season.”
Special guest Forrest Griffin, a mixed martial arts fighter and former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion, spent time in each of the homes visiting and hanging out with the youth. Forrest had connected with Boys Town Nevada through friend John Marushok, the event chair for the site’s board of directors.
“The kids were extremely surprised and excited to see Forrest at their homes,” Gibbs said. “He took the time to visit each of the five homes and meet all the kids individually.”
