Boys Town Louisiana Youth Ready for School
Boys Town Louisiana youth aren’t blue about going back to school this year thanks to a few recent activities preparing them for the upcoming academic year.
Nearly 50 Boys Town youth and friends gathered at Boys Town Louisiana’s Gretna Home for an inspirational message from locally-known, “Dr. Truth.”
“Dr. Truth let them know that it’s what’s in their head that’s important, not what’s on their head or what they’re wearing,” said Deborah Lewis, Boys Town Louisiana In-Home Family Consultant.
Dr. Truth also discussed abstinence with the group and entertained with a skit featuring a lesson about telling the truth.
“The youth really enjoyed the energy and Dr. Truth’s interaction with the group,” said Lewis. “He was able to talk to them on a level that made them receptive to his message.”
Boys Town Louisiana youth further prepared for the school year with new school supplies complements of Covenant Church, a neighborhood supporter. For the past three years, Covenant Church’s congregation has been mentoring Boys Town youth, planning picnics, cooking classes and providing other opportunities for fellowship.
Members of Covenant gathered the school supplies for the Boys Town youth as well as other youth in the neighborhood. Grateful for their new supplies, Boys Town youth assisted the church in dispersing the remaining bags of supplies to the neighborhood kids.
“It taught them a good lesson about giving and receiving,” said Herman Clayton, Boys Town Louisiana Family-Teacher.
Armed with motivation, new supplies and a few lessons, Boy Town Louisiana youth are more than ready to start a successful 2010-2011 school year.
