Not only is the Texas Cavalier’s River Parade the first parade to kick-off Fiesta, it raises money and awareness for children’s charities across the San Antonio Community. The proceeds from the parade will benefit the Children’s Charities in 2016 for grant awards.Since 1989, the Texas Cavaliers have been supporting local children’s charities with this event. The weather was beautiful and each float had festive music playing. The highlight of the evening was former Dallas Cowboys player, Emmitt Smith, as he was Grand Marshall for the festivities. The one of a kind event infused the bold bright colors of “floating gardens” on vibrant floats that glided through San Antonio’s river walk, making a unique city experience with over 250,000 viewers supporting the cause each year. This year’s theme was “Believe” which featured over 45 floats. Boys Town Texas’ float was “Believe in Movies”. Characters such as ET, Olaf from Disney’s “Frozen” and Batman were featured among other fun movie references like giant-sized Grammy figures. Boys Town youth and staff danced and waved on the float with the accompaniment of a live band.“This was a great event for Boys Town Texas to be a part of,” said Janie Cook, Executive Director, Boys Town Texas. “We not only get exposure in our community, but we also work together for a great cause. We're grateful to the Texas Cavaliers and our sponsors for their support and hope to be included again. Also, if you ever wanted to feel like a celebrity, stand next to Batman!”A big thank you goes out to Boys Town Texas board member, Mark Martinez, CEO of M2 Technology and the rest of their company for sponsoring the float and giving the site this opportunity. Thank you to the board members who sponsored parade tickets for Boys Town Texas youth, families and staff so they could watch the parade from the river banks. Not only did the Texas Cavaliers give Boys Town an opportunity to participate in the parade, they awarded us a grant for $4,000.Proceeds of the parade benefit the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation and its mission.
