Volunteer Opportunities

Family Support Services Program
Family Matching

Developing a strong social support network is important for every family that is facing a challenge. Family Matching, a new service offered by Boys Town California, focuses on creating helpful peer-to-peer relationships between these families and trained Volunteer Family Mentors who have had similar experiences.

Boys Town California matches these Family Mentors with families that are seeking assistance based on common strengths and challenges, past experiences, and other factors that can lead to a social connection.

An important part of this matching process is the monthly community events that families and Family Mentors attend. In this relaxed social environment, they can share and exchange information and begin to develop beneficial relationships.

This allows family members to interact naturally with those who have been through similar situations and choose their own social supports. This increases the likelihood of successful peer-to-peer relationships and additional support for families.

A Peer Mentor Supervisor oversees these gatherings to provide ongoing support, encouragement and guidance to participating families and Family Mentors.
