What is the Boys Town National Hotline? (top)

The Boys Town National Hotline is the only hotline available to anyone at anytime. If you're depressed, contemplating suicide, being physically or sexually abused, on the run, addicted, threatened by gang violence, fighting with a parent, a parent frustrated by your child, scared of your spouse or faced with an overwhelming challenge, you'll find help at the end of the line.

Who's Calling (top)

Approximately 250,000 callers contact us annually. Just under half of those who call are 19-years-old or younger. Nearly two-thirds are female. Parents seeking advice account for more than a third of the calls. Many who call have relationship problems that affect their family life.

When can I call? (top)

The hotline is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can call free of charge from anywhere in the United States, the U.S. Territories and Canada.

Who's Answering? (top)

Competent, experienced counselors answer your calls. You will talk with professionals who possess crisis intervention skills and assessment and counseling abilities. In addition to a thorough screening, training and supervision process, our counselors meet the hotline accreditation requirements of the American Association of Suicidology.

Spanish-speaking counselors and translation services, representing more than 140 languages, are available 24 hours a day, every day. A TDD line (1-800-448-1833) allows counselors to communicate easily with speech-impaired and deaf callers.

What help is available? (top)

Get expert advice. We are the only national hotline that is accredited by both the American Association of Suicidology and the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, Inc. We will help you prioritize your problems, identify your options and build your confidence. Often, the best is in your own community. Our database includes more than 20,000 agencies and services nationwide. We can refer you to an agency in your area and provide follow-up support.
