Boys Town conducts research studies with a number of schools and school districts around the country that have implemented the Boys Town Education ModelSM and related programs indicate:

  • A 50% or higher reduction in school suspensions and/or office referrals
  • A significant increase in students’ on-task behaviors (paying attention, following instructions, participating in classroom activities)
  • More positive learning environments for students and more positive working conditions for teachers
  • Healthier teacher-student relationships
  • Improved scores on standardized tests of reading and writing for high-risk students

  • Teachers felt the Boys Town Education ModelSM has helpful techniques, is beneficial and worth the implementation effort, and gives staff a common language resulting in better communication across programs.
  • Administrators found the Boys Town Education ModelSM to be an effective method for increasing teacher accountability in the classroom, and helpful in detecting and remediating teacher difficulties.
  • On average, both elementary and adolescent students showed gains in social skills at the end of a school year.
  • One urban elementary school saw a 52% decrease in school suspensions two years after the Boys Town Education ModelSM was implemented, and school suspensions for physical and verbal aggression were reduced by 60%. Teachers reported that 80% of their students were paying attention in class, following instructions and participating in classroom activities.
