The Boys Town Washington, D.C. Intervention and Assessment program received a much needed “new year” boost with a $25,000 grant from Fannie Mae.
Olympian Makes Special Visit to Boys Town Washington, D.C.
Three-time Olympic long-track speed skater, Nathaniel Mills, cooled down the summer heat Saturday, June 26 when he demonstrated his I.C.E. skating skills to Boys Town Washington, D.C., youth.
Mills, along with youth from his Inner City Excellence (I.C.E.) Program wowed Boys Town youth and staff with their speed skating skills during an hour-long presentation. As the I.C.E. members showed off their amazing talents, Mills (Coach Nat) used them as examples for the topics he discussed.
D.C. Spirit of Youth Breakfast Honors Youths’ Achievements
More than 100 people attended the Boys Town Washington, D.C., Spirit of Youth Breakfast June 24 to recognize Boys Town youth and their achievements.
The event’s Keynote Speaker, J.C. Watts, offered words of encouragement and inspiration to the crowd to keep up the good work. Just as it is his job to be a good example to his son and daughter, the former Congressman shared with the audience that Boys Town’s family dynamic serves as an ideal example to its youth of what life should be like for them.

D.C. Youth Hit the Books During Big Read Event
Boys Town Washington, D.C. kicked off the Big Read Event in collaboration with the District of Columbia Public Library, with acclaimed authors Marita Golden and R. Dwayne Betts to encourage youth in reading and writing.
The Event, which happens nationwide annually, selects a book for youth to read and then follows with book discussions. It motivates youth to step away from their online world and become enthusiastic about, and interested in, reading.
Washington, D.C., Campus Receives Spring Spruce Up
After a long and snowy winter, the Boys Town Washington, D.C., campus is getting spruced up thanks to three local organizations whose volunteers are making sure D.C. youth have a beautiful place to call home.
Throughout the month of April, the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA), The Ritz Carlton, and Greater DC Cares are joining Boys Town Washington, D.C., for special service days to help give the campus an outdoor makeover.

Boys Town D.C. Gathers Community for Tree Lighting, Caroling
Boys Town D.C. might not be getting a White Christmas this year, but it’s sure been getting a lot of rain! However, that didn’t stop supporters from getting together and celebrating a kickoff to the campus’ holiday season with its 17th annual Tree Lighting event.
Approximately 30 people gathered on December 7 to welcome in the holidays with music, food and merriment in the campus shelter. Also present were guests Debra Porchia-Usher, the former Interim Director of Child and Family Services, and David Berns, the Director of D.C. Human Services.
Boys Town D.C. Youth Receives $2,500 Scholarship
One of Boys Town Washington D.C.’s finest was recognized at the Spirit of Youth breakfast fundraiser September 22 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel when she was granted a $2,500 scholarship.
