Like many 19-year-olds, Rey Baca is ready and waiting on the doorstep to the rest of his life.

Before he can join ranks with the military in February, he must say goodbye to the home that helped transform him from lost teen, angry and engaging in graffiti, to U.S. Marine.

Journey of Hope Great Success for Children and Families

Guests of Boys Town Nevada’s 6th annual Journey of Hope were welcomed to the Red Rock Hotel and Casino May 20, by youth, who reminiscent of the early 1900s, were dressed in period costumes.

Boys Town Nevada supporters, youth and staff hit the ground running March 20 to participate in the organization’s “Running for Hope” event.

Offering participants the opportunity to run either a 5k or 10k, or take a 1-mile “fun walk,” this family-friendly event introduced many to the Boys Town Nevada campus and its youth.

Children and families taking part in Boys Town Nevada’s Common Sense Parenting® (CSP) program have experienced great success, with more than 300 families taking part in the program in 2011 alone! 

Boys Town Nevada Christmas Community Open House

Boys Town Nevada kicked off the holiday season with its third annual Hot Cocoa and Cookies Open House on Thursday, December 8.  

Guests, including families and youth, kept cozy with hot cocoa and cookies baked by the Boys Town Nevada staff as they gathered to admire the light displays of each of the campus’s five Family-Teaching homes.  

Boys Town Nevada Names New Executive Director

Boys Town Nevada’s newest leader, Executive Director Howard Olshansky, is no stranger to the task of serving at-risk children and families. He brings with him over thirty years of experience in the field and an eagerness to continue this work at Boys Town.

Youth Stand Up for Skateparks

Thirteen boys from Boys Town Nevada’s Residential Homes had one gnarly experience when they recently attended the Tony Hawk Foundation’s Stand Up For Skateparks fundraiser.

The family-oriented, carnival-style event took place at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas and featured interactive activities, food, games, and live and silent auctions with one-of-a-kind items and opportunities - all to benefit the foundation’s mission to bring free public skateparks to low-income communities across the U.S.

Boys Town Youth Get Red Carpet Treatment at MMA Awards

Boys Town Nevada youth Eric and Tyler received star treatment as special guests of Molly Qerim, a co-host of the 2011 Fighters Only World MMA Awards November 30.

“Just to see their faces and how much it meant to them to walk down the red carpet, to be a part of it… that really meant absolutely everything to me,” Qerim recently told BleacherReport.com. “To see their smiles, it’s just so rewarding and special.”

Boys Town Nevada Youth, Alumni and Staff Embrace Thanksgiving Tradition

Elmer Marshall was an exceptional alumnus who grew up at Boys Town during the era of Father Flanagan. Not only was he instrumental in bringing Boys Town to Nevada, but for nearly twenty years he provided a meal to the youth in the residential homes and shelter of Boys Town Nevada. Until he passed away in 2009, Marshall was heavily involved with the organization. 

Though Marshall has passed, his memory lives on with the annual Elmer Marshall Thanksgiving Alumni Event, which has carried on with the help of another special Boys Town alumna and board member, Tami Wells.  

Tyson Griffin Donates $2,000 to Boys Town Nevada

Mixed martial arts fighter Tyson Griffin recently donated $2,022 from a fundraising raffle he held for Boys Town Nevada.

UFC fans bought $25 raffle tickets for a chance to win two event and after party tickets for Griffin’s fight October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Boys Town Nevada received all raffle ticket sales.
