Back to School, Back to a Routine
I was watching TV last night and a back-to-school commercial came on. I thought, what is a commercial like that doing on in the middle of summer? And then I remembered… it’s already August.
Where does the time go? Seems like we were just celebrating graduation at Boys Town and the end of a long, cold winter in the Midwest. Nevertheless, it’s time get our kids, and ourselves, back into a routine for that first school bell that’s just around the corner. If your kids don’t go to year-round school like our Boys Town youth, that could be a challenge for your family.
Fortunately, Boys Town has a great team of experts on kids, school and just about every child or parent issue you can name.
One of the best ways to find their advice and suggestions is to visit Parenting.orgSM, one of Boys Town’s Web services. The site has a special school section that can help with the summer-to-school transition, whether your child is going into preschool or getting ready for his or her senior year of high school. These tips center around setting boundaries early and being consistent, even on weekends.
This time of year is also a great time to get back into a routine of regular family prayer and attendance at church services. I encourage you to get back to celebrating together.
There are dozens of articles and videos on the Web site that can be valuable resources for you and your family. We also offer a variety of books, DVDs and other helpful parenting products through our Boys Town PressSM, a Web site you can reach on Parenting.orgSM.
Now if only they came with an air horn for getting your teen out of bed on school days.
