Admissions

In most cases, children are referred to Boys Town by social service agencies, juvenile courts and human service professionals. These professionals are able to assist the youth's legal guardian in coordinating the admissions process. Parents can also apply directly to the Boys Town Admissions office.

Father Flanagan Scholarships

As a partner in your child's care, Boys Town also expects every parent or guardian to commit to financially support their child in accord with the family's ability. At a minimum, parents or guardians are expected to provide as much financial support as they are currently providing for the youth at home (i.e., clothes, school, entertainment, food, shelter, and medical needs). Fortunately, the generosity of America's donors allows us to provide partial scholarships for those in need. As part of the admissions process, we will work with each parent or guardian to determine whether, and at what level, a scholarship is needed.

Three Simple Steps

Step One - The Assessment Phase

The legal guardian is asked to submit information that will assist the admissions committee in determining if the needs of the child can be best served in our program. This includes a clinical psychological evaluation, necessary legal documentation, medical and school records and a handwritten letter from the child. The handwritten letter from the child should communicate why the youth wants to live at Boys Town. This is one of the ways that the child begins to show a commitment to wanting to get better.

Step Two - The Commitment Phase

If your child has qualified for placement, there is some additional documentation that will need to be completed by the legal guardian. The required forms will need to be completed by the legal guardian. The required forms will be sent to the guardian upon the child's qualification of placement.

We ask each guardian who places a child at Boys Town to participate in the Common Sense Parenting (CSP) Program. CSP teaches parents effective methods for handling children's behavior that is consistent with the Boys Town Model of Care. The CSP Program is available to families without geographic restriction.

Step Three - The Admission Phase

This final phase prepares the guardian and the child for the day the child will come to live at Boys Town. An admissions representative will confirm that all of the required documentation has been submitted. Once the final admissions requirements have been met, the legal guardian will be contacted to schedule an admission date for the child's arrival at Boys Town.

How To Get Started

Submit the following information:
  1. Handwritten letter from the child saying "I want to come" is essential.
  2. If you have clinical psychological evaluations, an IQ assessment, and a social history, send them in right away. Perhaps you can get them from your child's school or a therapist. If you're having trouble getting these, let us know.
  3. School grades transcripts, and behavioral information.
  4. Current physical examination and immunization records within the last year.
