Q. DOES BOYS TOWN HAVE ANY OTHER SERVICES THAT WILL HELP MY CHILDREN AND FAMILY? (top)

A. Boys Town has other services that provide help, healing and hope to people across the nation. These include:

Boys Town National Hotline (1-800-448-3000), a toll-free crisis and resource referral service, is the only National Hotline accredited by the American Association of Suicidology and the Council on Accreditation of Services for Family and Children, Inc. Trained counselors assist callers 24 hours a day, seven days a week; they complete every call by resolving the problem or making a referral. Services include full-time Spanish language assistance and a TTY line (1-800-448-1833) for speech-impaired, deaf or hard-of-hearing callers.

In 2007, the Hotline helped 502,587 callers from people in the United States, Guam, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. More than 38,000 of those calls came from youth where hotline staff intervened to save the caller’s life or provide therapeutic counseling. Since opening in 1989, the Hotline has assisted more than 7 million callers.

Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Neb., is recognized internationally as a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of deaf or hard-of-hearing children and children with speech disorders. Since opening in 1977, thousands of children have come to the Hospital from across Nebraska and all areas of the United States. Countless others are touched by advances in diagnosis and treatment, parent training, professional education programs, and the world-class research of the Hospital’s clinicians and research scientists.

Boys Town National Research Hospital-West, located on the Boys Town Home Campus in the Village of Boys Town, Neb., combines state-of-the-art health care and youth care programs to improve the educational, physical and emotional needs of children. The 50,000-square-foot facility includes the National Treatment Center for Abused and Neglected Children with Disabilities and the Institute for Child Health Improvement, providing specialized programs for neglected and abandoned youth suffering from disabilities.  The facility offers medical, surgical and behavioral health services.

The Hospital, in partnership with Alegent Health, also provides general pediatric care to thousands of Omaha-area children from infants to teens through Boys Town Pediatrics. Twenty-four physicians see patients at seven metro-area clinics each year.

Boys Town Training Evaluation and Certification Center, located at National Headquarters in Nebraska, provides training and other services in Boys Town’s cutting-edge, child-care technologies and programs to youth-care workers, teachers, administrators, juvenile justice organizations and professionals across the United States and in several foreign countries. From school safety and reading programs to parent education and family intervention programs, the Center assesses, develops and implements specialized programs for organizations and individuals in child and family services, education, juvenile justice and behavioral health. In 2006, the National Resource and Training Center indirectly assisted nearly 1 million children and families through training and outreach services in 41 states.

Reading Center – The Center conducts applied research on literacy programs at school located in Boys Town, Neb. The center uses this research to design programs aimed at improving the reading and writing skills of adolescents with problem behaviors, ages 14-17. Many of these adolescents read or write three to four years below their grade level. The goal of the Reading Center is to help Boys Town students improve reading skills and to disseminate these programs to other schools around the country.

Common Sense Parenting® – This program, based on proven child-care methods pioneered at Boys Town, provides a six-week series of comprehensive training sessions to help parents and child-care professionals learn new skills, build on strengths and develop healthy relationships with children.
