Community Gathers for Summer-end Fun at D.C. Site
Boys Town Washington, D.C., welcomed family, friends, former youth and community partners for a day of fun and appreciation Sat., Aug. 4.
Karaoke, tug-of-war, face painting, double-dutch, hula hoop and other games filled the day with fun for kids and their guests.
"This was the most fun I've ever had," said one Boys Town Washington, D.C., youth attending the event.
With another school year right around the corner, the day of celebration and community also energized the youth for the coming year. Special guest Mike Hall of the NBA's Washington Wizards spoke to the youth and encouraged them to study hard, do well and stay in school.
During the event, Boys Town youth also enjoyed police dog demonstrations and tours of a D.C. fire truck and a classic 1964 Chevrolet Impala, courtesy of Old Town Motor Cars.
"It was truly a wonderful day," said Cynthia Davis, Boys Town Washington, D.C., Development Director. "We were humbled with all of the outpouring of love and support received from the local community and by the pure joy on the faces of our kids."
Locally-donated ice cream and snow cones cooled the 150 attendees, who included several Boys Town Washington, D.C., Board members, D.C. police officers and fire fighters, and volunteers from Georgetown Kids Mobile Medical Clinic, Rising Leaders of Freddie Mac and SCORE! Educational Center.
"This day expresses our appreciation for the tremendous love, support and care extended throughout the year by all of our family and friends – our partners," Davis said. "Without each and every expression of support, none of the programs and services we provide for children would be possible." |
