Boys Town Washington D.C.’s Salvatrice Murphy, honored as Social Work Supervisor of the Year by the Consortium for Child Welfare.

Murphy Wins Social Work Supervisor of the Year Award

Salvatrice Murphy, Assistant Program Coordinator at Boys Town Washington, D.C., received the Social Work Supervisor of the Year award given by the Consortium for Child Welfare.

“Salvatrice has been an incredible inspiration to her team,” said Lyn Corbett, Boys Town Washington, D.C., Site Director. “She is not only a strong leader, but leads by example and does the extra work when necessary.”

It is this dedicated attitude that prompted Murphy’s colleagues to nominate her for the esteemed award. “Salvatrice was nominated by her team and other team members from other agencies,” said Corbett.

Very humble, Murphy finds it difficult to accept all the recognition for herself. Instead, she emphasizes her gratitude for her co-workers. “I’m most proud working with a whole team of people striving for excellence in the quality of care for youth,” Murphy said.

“The degree of respect that she had not only from the people she supervises and her superiors, but also from her colleagues and her peers from other agencies was amazing,” said Tom Wells, Executive Director for the Consortium for Child Welfare. “She’s known for her energy and passion and she’s known for being innovative.”

Murphy, who began her Boys Town career in 2001 as a case carrying social worker, was promoted to Assistant Program Coordinator in 2004. In addition to her regular duties, which include working with Boys Town consultants and foster parents, Murphy also spent four to six months last year filling in as the Foster Care Coordinator to ensure the program would continue to run smoothly.

The Consortium for Child Welfare’s mission is to protect children and support families by facilitating communication and collaboration, promoting innovation, services and developing resources, and advocating for the highest practice standards for children, youth and family services.
