"Home Challenge Champion Award" Given For Royal CreationWith a Mardi Gras theme, Boys Town Washington, D.C., added a new twist to their Quarterly Youth Awards. As a nod to the southern flavor and tradition of Mardi Gras, the awards committee, which honors the successes of the youth in the Treatment Group Home, challenged the families to create a traditional King Cake.
A long-standing tradition during Mardi Gras, a King Cake is baked with a small trinket inside. The person who gets the trinket in their piece of cake is usually given various privileges and obligations. Each of the cakes submitted were judged on the basis of presentation, appearance and taste. After a tough decision between the Carter and Pott homes, the judges awarded the Carter home with the first annual "Home Challenge Champion Award" at the April 24 Quarterly Youth Award Ceremony. Along with the pride of winning, the Carter home earned a gold trophy which will remain in the house until next quarter's "Home Challenge" competition.
