Boys Town Washington, D.C. Steps Up to Receive Award
Boys Town Washington, D.C., employees stepped up to receive the America's Promise 100 Best Communities for Young People award on behalf of the entire Boys Town organization at a Jan. 24 reception in the nation's capital city.
"It was an honor to represent all of the Boys Town sites," said Sanam Toossi, Boys Town Washington, D.C., Program Support Services Coordinator. "We met a wide variety of people, including Alma Powell and the President of America's Promise, Marguerite Kondracke."
Boys Town earned the award because of its commitment to ensure children receive the fundamental resources they need to lead successful, healthy and productive lives. Boys Town Washington, D.C., played a role in the organization winning the award because of the safety and care they provided to 385 children and 89 families in 2006 through their Treatment Family Services, Intervention and Assessment Services, and Child and Family Support Services. Boys Town has locations in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
At the January event, Alma Powell, chair of America's Promise Alliance, which was founded by her husband former General Colin Powell, gave an inspiring message about the importance of communities like Boys Town, serving kids and creating a safe environment in which they can grow and build a strong society.
"Receiving this award definitely shows our youth at Boys Town Washington, D.C., that they are a part of an organization that is youth-centered, cares about their future and offers lots of resources to help them succeed," said Toossi. "It's great that all of the Boys Town sites can be acknowledged for the hard work they do."
