South Florida Celebrates Sponsors with Special Guest
On January 13 th, Boys Town South Florida hosted a celebration to recognize the sponsors who made our annual Hope for the Holidays campaign a success. The campaign matches the wish lists of our neediest children and families with community sponsors, who make those wishes come true. The campaign was off to a slow start due to Hurricane Wilma, but ended up with enough sponsors to provide gifts for a record-setting 440 children. The 81 sponsors include individuals, families, corporations, small businesses and church groups.
Those who attended the celebration were treated to entertainment provided by the West Riviera Elementary School Chorus and refreshments courtesy of Boys Town South Florida staff. The group was happily surprised by a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, who were enjoying a warm weather vacation after the holiday rush. Santa and Mrs. Claus (dressed in their tropical-vacation wear) passed out gifts to the performers and posed for photos with the sponsors.
Sponsors also received thank you notes and photos from the families for whom they provided gifts. Many of the children drew pictures or made cards to thank Santa. Most of the parents wrote notes saying that without the help of strangers, they would not have been able to celebrate the holidays at all. |
