Family Preservation Consultants Paid Ultimate Compliment

Boys Town South Florida Family Preservation Consultants Sacra Durandisse and Andre Bell received the ultimate reward for their hard work in helping a family mend relationships – a letter of heartfelt thanks.

Durandisse worked with Belle, a FPS trainer, on her first case as a consultant. The family she was assigned consisted of a 27 year-old mother, her 11 year-old daughter, and 4, 2 and 1 year-old sons. The family was referred from the Department of Children and Families to assist the mother with parenting strategies and assistance with daycare.

During the course of Durandisse’s and Belle’s work, the mother met her goal of using praise and rewards with her children when they behaved appropriately. The mother and daughter met their goals by learning to laugh at oneself and writing down positive things about themselves daily. The mother also came up with a list of low-to-no cost rewards for her children. The children, together, learned the necessary steps to follow directions and how to accept being told “no.”

For Durandisse, her first family consultation was a positive experience – so much, in fact, that the mother wrote to thank her and Belle for working with her family. Here is an excerpt from the letter:

I’d like to say thanks to Sacra and Andre for the work and great ideas they brought to my family. They opened my eyes to hope and possibilities that I was not sure I could overcome. I thank them both for helping me with my self-esteem and establishing a more direct sticker chart for the kids, which I still use. They never made me feel small, stupid, or low about anything negative I’ve experienced in my life. They help me to believe more in myself and what I could do. They recognize the good I was already doing and the good in me. I was blessed to come to know Boys Town and Sacra and Andre. I would like them to (know) I appreciate everything…they (did) for me and my babies. They will always be remembered.

“I was humbled that the mother wrote the letter,” said Durandisse. “She was a pleasure to work with because she wants to make a difference in her life. She took what she learned, wrote it down and is using it to help her family. She deserves all the credit.”
