Novo Nordisk Recruits More Than 100 Employees for Trabuco Canyon Home Improvements
A sunny Thursday in early May brought together a major global corporation and Boys Town California. Some 120 Novo Nordisk employees representing the company's California region volunteered to spend the day helping brighten the lives of the children at the Boys Town Trabuco Canyon residential family campus in Orange County.

The primary purpose of the day was for these volunteers to dig in and provide a range of home improvement projects for the homes at the campus such as painting, gardening, garage clean-out and refurbishing, and more. Activities included a buffet breakfast, morning team building exercises, introduction to Boys Town with house tours, lunch with children and staff, afternoon home improvement work, and an awards ceremony for the campus's youth residents.
Novo Nordisk is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, with a focus on diabetes care. The event was an outgrowth of the company's "triple bottom line" commitment to being economically viable, socially responsible and environmentally sound. The company's social responsibility programs extend to its employees, customers, business partners, and the communities in which it operates. The day at Boys Town was the first time staff from an entire region assembled for a community service project.
The commitment of key individuals helped make this day possible. Gus Torres, Novo Nordisk Regional Business Director, knew about Boys Town through volunteer work by his wife at the Tilly's Baby Home at the Trabuco Canyon campus and through neighbor Cathy Chapman, one of Boys Town's most active volunteers. Through the relationships between these three people and their commitment to helping California children, all the residents at Trabuco Canyon benefited as did more than a hundred Novo Nordisk employees who had the opportunity to experience the very special environment and children at the campus.
