Lennar Campus to Open to Compton Area Children July 15
Through the generosity of Lennar Corporation and several leading foundations, Boys Town California is opening its new Lennar Assessment and Short-term Residential Center in East Rancho Dominguez, Calif. Join us for a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony set for July 15, attended by Boys Town youth residents, staff and Board of Trustees as well as local elected officials and members of the community.
This new Boys Town campus will provide a much needed Assessment and Short-Term Residential Center for severely at-risk girls in the Compton area. The center will serve up to 16 girls at a time and nearly 300 children in California each year.
At Boys Town, children are taught valuable life skills including self-control, self-help and self-discipline through the unique Boys Town Model of Care that brings help, healing and hope to children and families by building on two fundamental elements - teaching basic social skills and building healthy relationships. This involves daily, ongoing interaction to support youth throughout their care in a safe environment to improve treatment outcomes.
Children may stay at the Assessment and Short-term Residential Center for up to 30 days as their needs are assessed to determine the best placement option for them. The first choice is reunification with the family, if that is in the best interests of the child. Other options include foster care or the Boys Town residential campus located in Trabuco Canyon in Orange County.
The new Boys Town California Lennar Campus was made possible by a $1-million gift from Lennar Corporation, a leading nationwide home builder with a longstanding commitment to community involvement, as well as grants from the Ahmanson, Annenberg, Norris, Skirball, Ralph M. Parsons and Weingart Foundations. It has also been adopted by HomeAid Los Angeles/Ventura, a non-profit organization that partners to help build shelters for people in need.
