Volunteering Makes All the Difference for California Board Member
Kendall Mosley’s children come from all over California. They may not be her own, but she has a direct influence on their lives as a Boys Town California volunteer and board member.
“I wanted to make a difference in the life of a child and since I did not have any of my own, I found a group of wonderful kids at Boys Town in Trabuco Canyon,” said Mosley, an active volunteer for more than two years.
Mosley says it is a privilege to spend time with Boys Town youth, and has formed a special bond with Dureti, a young woman from Ethiopia who Mosley descries as “energetic, beautiful and caring.”
Dureti and Mosley spend many afternoons together, enjoying numerous activities. Not only do they experience California culture, but Mosley also helps remind Dureti of her Ethiopian heritage. For Dureti’s 17th birthday, Mosley gave her a powder blue and gold scarf and a brown carved wood bracelet from the capital city of Ethiopia.
“Becoming active with Boys Town and being a member of the Board has changed my life,” said Mosley. “I really feel that I can make a dramatic difference in the lives of the many at-risk children in California.”
So much in fact that Mosley works continually to get others in her life involved with the program by bringing friends and business associates to many functions so that they can experience Boys Town and the incredible work being done.
“I sincerely hope that my continual and consistent presence in their lives gives them hope,” said Mosley. “They need to know that there are people in this world that will be there for them and will not let them down. I want to be a good example of what is possible in their future lives.
