Make a Difference - Be a Mentor

Children at Boys Town Texas benefit greatly from the help of mentors like you. Many children enter our programs behind in basic educational skills. As a mentor, you will provide reading assistance to children in our shelter, and with your help, students often increase reading by two grade levels in just one year!

The mentoring program is a vital part of Boys Town Texas’s success in reaching the children in our Assessment and Short Term Residential program. Mentoring requires an hour of your time, for as often as you would like to volunteer. Many volunteers spend their lunch breaks mentoring with the children in the dining room.

Call (210) 271-1010 or
e-mail Janet Pedrotti at pedrottij@boystown.org
if you are interested in becoming a mentor and helping a child succeed.

Retired professor Carter Price mentors several hours each week.

Leti Dossman makes time in her busy college schedule to be a mentor.

Father Flanagan's Boys Town Texas has adopted the HOSTS (Helping One Student To Succeed) Language Arts program, a nationally recognized structured mentoring program that matches students who need help in reading with community members who want to make a difference in a student's life. With help from volunteer mentors, students receive extra attention and encouragement they need to become successful readers and writers.
