Strong Community Support Makes Texas Christmas Bright

Boys Town Texas youth enjoyed an exceptional Christmas thanks to their many friends and supporters throughout the community.

Over a two-week period during the holiday season, individual and corporate donors gave toys and gifts of all kinds to be sure no child was left without. Employees from Macy's Department Store in Texas collected enough gifts to be the sole supplier of presents for Christmas Day.

"This was our best Christmas ever," said Wade Rascoe, Boys Town Texas Executive Director. "We had more corporate sponsors than ever before and each one really stepped up. The kids really appreciated it and you could tell."

"Boy, this place is awesome," said one young girl experiencing her first Boys Town Christmas.

Among the many supporters who came through on Christmas were individual donors who gave special attention to Boys Town Texas.

Dan and Cathy Rourke, philanthropists who have supported Boys Town for three years, provided a formal dinner on Christmas Day for the youth and their parents. "They brought everything, even the table linens and place settings," said Elizabeth Collet, Boys Town Texas Development Director.

"For my husband and I, it was always a tradition to have family and friends over for Christmas," said Cathy Rourke. "We wanted the kids to be able to experience that."

Marc and Mary Martinez, owners of M2 Technologies and long-time friends of Boys Town, purchased a brand new foosball table and air-hockey table. "They always go above and beyond for our children," said Collet.

Generous sponsors during the holiday inclueed Valero Energy, USAA, Purple Hearts, the ladies of the Northern Hill Golf Club, Blue Star Café, and the Alamo Café.
