Boys Town New York
Employee Dedicated to Making a Difference
Lorraine Delgado’s first experience with Boys Town youth 10 years ago changed the course of her career.
“They all introduced themselves to me and invited me to join them,” said Delgado, who was on an outing while working for another agency when she met the children and their Family-Teachers. “I had so much fun and was so impressed with the behavior… I just knew I wanted to be a part of that.”
Today, Delgado is a key part of the success seen by children at Boys Town New York’s Dean Street Short-Term Residential Program. The Youth Care Worker began her career with the organization seven years ago as an Assistant Family-Teacher in the Long-Term Residential Program. She says the rewards she sees working with the youth and helping them be successful make the challenges seem insignificant.
“When a young person looks you in the eye and just says ‘thank you, Miss Lorraine,’ it makes it all worthwhile,” said Delgado. “You both know what they mean and that it is coming from the heart.”
“Lorraine is excellent role model for the youth and other Youth Care Workers,” said Zankhana Shukla, Program Support Services Coordinator and former Dean Street Program Director. “She is a professional and enthusiastic employee and someone I have been happy to work with.”
“Throughout Lorraine’s tenure, she has remained professional, dedicated, and focused on our mission and how we care for our youth,” said Carolyn Slade, Acting Program Director at the Dean Street Short-Term Residential Program.
It’s the ability and determination to help young people reach their life goals that make Delgado and other youth care staff invaluable to the children of Boys Town.
“I love my job because I feel a sense of accomplishment in giving back to youth in need of support, guidance and just plain ‘love,’” said Delgado. “I look forward to a long life of making a difference in kids’ lives.”
