NBA’s Hilton Armstrong Brings Message and Gifts for Boys Town Louisiana Kids
When Hilton Armstrong arrived at Boys Town Louisiana’s City Park home Sept. 12, he carried more than just boxes of donated clothes. He carried a message of hope for hurting kids.
Armstrong, who donated more than $10,000 worth of Adidas clothes, shoes and school gear to Boys Town Louisiana children, spent more than two hours sharing stories and advice with the children in the home.
“I know when I was a teenager growing up, clothes meant a lot to me going to school. When I looked good on the outside, I felt good on the inside,” said Armstrong to reporters who came to witness the visit. “I wanted to do something to help these kids out, and help them feel better on the inside, be a part of their life and make things better for them.”
During his visit, Armstrong spoke about his upbringing, signed and received autographs from the youth, and shared Family-Teacher Yvonne Clayton’s seafood gumbo.
“He was really sincere in wanting to help the youth in our program as much as possible... We were all blown away by this young mans big heart,” said Orlando Petrie, Boys Town Louisiana Residential Program Director. “He also asked for a doggie bag for his gumbo.”
Following dinner, Armstrong presented the youth with his gifts and said he would keep in touch. Boys Town Louisiana is grateful for the generosity from a young man whose heart matches his height.
“We are grateful to Hilton Armstrong for choosing to be a good role model on and off the basketball court,” said Dennis Dillon, Boys Town Louisiana Executive Director. “This young athlete has a heart for children. I was immediately struck by his genuineness and sincerity when it comes to helping children. The smiles on the children's faces are etched in my memory. God bless Hilton Armstrong and go Hornets!”
