Clemson University Students Lend a Hand in New Orleans
While most college students pack up their bags and head off to some exotic beach in Mexico or to the snowy mountains of Colorado for spring break, students from Clemson University’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes group volunteered three days of their vacation time to help spruce up Boys Town Shelters and Family Homes in New Orleans.
A total of 60 volunteers tackled a variety of chores at the two emergency Shelters and four Homes, from organizing storage areas, washing donated clothes and cleaning floors to tutoring the kids and playing football in the park.
"Our kids were so blown away by the fact that the Clemson students were volunteering during their spring break to serve us," said Family-Teacher Greg Fortenberry. “They were completely unselfish, and I think our kids really enjoyed the positive interaction with the volunteers."
“I know all of the volunteers really enjoyed their experience,” said Clemson FCA student leader Rachel Hinson. “They all had a wonderful time helping out with the kids around the Shelters.”
