Boys Town Louisiana Helps New Orleans Celebrate Christmas

Boys Town Louisiana youth shined their light throughout the city of New Orleans at two December Christmas celebrations.

Gathering in the heart of the city to flip the switch on more than 50,000 lights on one of the most famous balconies in the world, Boys Town Louisiana youth joined the New Orleans community for the 2nd Annual Lighting of the Balconies at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Two Boys Town Louisiana youth, Laryen and Christopher, had the honor of flipping the switch for the magnificent display.

The youth also received another Christmas surprise: new computers!

Mark Wilson, on behalf of the French Quarter Business Association and the Royal Sonesta Hotel, presented a gift certificate to Comp USA for two computers with education software included – a gift which will help Boys Town Louisiana youth succeed in school.

Only a few days after the city’s joyous event, Boys Town Louisiana youth celebrated Christmas in Washington Square. Leading the community in caroling, the youth recognized those lost to the crime and violence of the New Orleans community with candles and poinsettias. Each candle and poinsettia was placed in the Lights of Hope tent in memory of loved ones.

“Our services are vital to this community because we are teaching at-risk youth new ways of behaving and thinking,” said Dr. Dennis Dillon, Boys Town Louisiana Executive Director. “We are teaching coping skills, problem solving methods, independent living skills and social skills they can use in everyday life.”
