Boys Town Louisiana Offers Help to Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
Grandparents raising their grandchildren are finding help and hope thanks to Boys Town Louisiana. In May, Boys Town Louisiana partnered with Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Foundation to help families find the assistance they need.
Boys Town’s Family-Centered Services Program provides grandparents with a 12-week service that identifies the needs of the families, links the grandparents with resources in their communities and teaches the youth and grandparents skills to improve family functioning. The program was highlighted at the 10th Annual Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Conference.
“The conference was a success,” said Levillia Harleaux-Moore, Boys Town Louisiana Family-Centered Services Program Coordinator. “It was a great opportunity for the grandparents to receive information on the programs that Boys Town provides.”
A Grandparents Day event was another opportunity for Boys Town Louisiana to promote their programs. Activities such as a picnic, games, face painting, spacewalk, music, dancing and free health services gave grandparents and grandchildren and opportunity to have fun. Sharon Weston Broome, Louisiana Senator, also took part in the health screenings.
“We had a lot of fun with the grandparents and their grandchildren and were very appreciative of the help Boys Town gave us,” said Patricia Robinson, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Foundation Project Manager. Boys Town and the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Foundation look forward to more partnership opportunities in the future.
