About Paul Otero
Paul Otero was born in Denver, Colorado in 1950. Given up at birth, he grew up at Mount St. Vincent Orphanage in Denver until age 14 when he came to Boys Town.
He graduated from Boys Town High School in 1968 and served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. He served in Viet Nam in 1969 and 1970.
After the service, Paul enrolled and graduated from the University of Nebraska Kearney (then known as Kearney State). He received a B.A. in 1978 and a M.A. in 1979 Paul now resides in Omaha, Nebraska.
Paul has exhibited in Nebraska and across the nation since his graduation- including shows in universities and museums. His works are included in many private and corporate collections here and abroad.
Paul states that: "Through years of studying and the drawing process, I've learned that drawing is more than a marriage of eye, hand, and line, but a state of awareness that includes the breadth of one's seeing, one's feeling, and one's thinking; and then, an amazing synchronization of being, so that the eye and hand can move with feeling, intelligence and sensitive grace. For me, drawing is the penetration of both the interior and exterior world. When I draw, I notice that the presence of beauty, in form, is more spiritual in feeling than it is compelling in its physicality - and yet, I try never to betray the surface of my vision."
