Fun Family Time at Fall Fair

Hayrack rides, boys and girls playing catch or diving face first into a pie or watermelon was all part of the fun at the Boys Town Fall Family Fair Sunday.

"This day is really important to me because I have never been to a family reunion," said a youth who lives in Family-Teachers Chris and Michelle Tauber's home. "It is nice to look around and see everybody that cares about you."

"Boys Town is all about family and this event is a celebration of who we are as a bigger family of our community," said Father Boes. "It is time for our kids and employees to experience time with their families and celebrate what it means to be a part of Boys Town."

This year's fair provided a new element of fun with watermelon- and pie-eating contests. With Father Boes looking on and many kids yelling their names, boys and girls from each community buried their faces into the food, barely coming up for air until a winner was declared.

"That was lots of fun," said the youth who ate a cream pie faster than any of his fellow Boys Town brothers. "I just dug my face in there to get down and get dirty."

In addition to these new contests, traditional favorites remained popular. Children lined up at the petting zoo and swarmed the clowns to get a balloon. The lawn was filled with friendly games of football and volleyball.

"We were blessed with wonderful weather and look forward to having another fun fair next year," said Pernell Gatson, Boys Town Recruiter and Wellness Coordinator who helped coordinate the fair.

And as another Boys Town youth in the Tauber home, reminds us, the fair is all about family fun. "It is really a nice day where you can have fun outside hanging out with your friends and family and Boys Town brothers and sisters," she said.
