Boys Town Alumni Commemorate St. Cecelia's Cathedral 100th Anniversary at Parade
Boys Town alumni, staff, and their families celebrated St. Cecilia's Cathedral's 100th anniversary at a parade reflecting the ethnic mix of the Omaha Catholic Community Oct. 6.
Boys Town was well represented as the Father Flanagan League and Hall of History designed a float from historical photographs. Dave Bartholet, Director of Visitor Services, along with the Father Edward Flanagan Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, led the float dressed as Father Flanagan. The Hall of History also assisted the Father Edward Flanagan Division of the Knights of Columbus with historical displays.
In 1907, a large parade was held from the old cathedral in downtown Omaha to the new cathedral on 40th Street. The parade was organized to reflect the ethnic mix of the Omaha Catholic community with divisions representing the Irish, Italian, and Czech neighborhoods' parishes. Father Edward Flanagan marched in the parade as a young seminarian.
