Youth Accept More than 1,500 Books and $500 from Borders

Boys Town youth accepted more than 1,500 books and $500 from Borders bookstores at a ceremony at Wegner School Wednesday.

The books, donated through a community-wide book drive coordinated at four Omaha Borders bookstores, will help Boys Town youth become better readers.

"We are very grateful to our friends from Borders for providing these books for our kids," said Cathy DeSalvo, Wegner School Principal. "These books help our kids get excited about reading and inspire them to read more."

Julie Melia, Borders Express Manager at Oakview Mall, shakes the hand of a Wegner School student expressing his thanks.

Boys Town was a unanimous choice amongst each store manger to receive the donations. "We all know people who have benefited from Boys Town," said Sarah Dawson, Borders Papillion Store Manager. "Everyone is very excited about the success of this drive and happy to present these books to help the kids."

When asked which of the books are among the favorites, several Wegner students eagerly raised their hands. "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" were among the most common responses and were featured, among many others, in thank-you cards presented to Borders managers.
