Baker receives the Medal of Honor from President Bill Clinton in 1997 for his heroic actions during WWII.

Four Alumni Named Hall of History Honorees
Ceremony Part of 28th Biennial Alumni Convention

Four Boys Town alumni - Vernon Baker, August "Buddy" Hogan, Harlan Vogt and Bryan Burgess - will be honored July 28 as Hall of History Honorees, during the 28th Biennial Alumni Convention.

"These men have exemplified Father Flanagan's passion and commitment in supporting Boys Town's mission of helping change how America cares for her children and families," said Sarah Cambridge, Boys Town National Alumni Association Director.

Hogan
Vogt
Baker, who left Boys Town in 1933, is the only living black World War II soldier to receive the Medal of Honor. Serving as 2nd Lieutenant in the infantry in the Army, Baker destroyed three German machine gun positions, two bunkers and an observation post at Castle Aghinolfi in Italy during World War II. These actions led to Baker receiving the honor from President Clinton in 1997.

Hogan realized a successful career in Omaha after leaving Boys Town in 1957. He managed the first private sector, federally-sponsored job training program in the State of Nebraska for Mutual of Omaha from 1968 through 1970. Beginning in 1970, Hogan served Omaha Mayors Eugene Leahy and Edward Zorinsky in various positions.

Vogt, a past president and lifetime member of the Boys Town National Alumni Association (BTNAA), enlisted with the United States Navy after graduating Boys Town in 1946. Along with his wife, Marcy, Vogt is an active supporter of Boys Town. A member of the Boys Town National Alumni Scholarship Fund Committee since 1960, Vogt worked for 25 years as an accounting supervisor with Northern Natural Gas.

Burgess

Burgess, who will be honored posthumously, left Boys Town in 1951. An accomplished athlete, he was offered a contract with Major League Baseball's Boston Braves, but turned it down to complete his college education. While living in California, Burgess was a technical representative for Rockwell International Space Division for 20 years, and served as president of the BTNAA's California chapter.
