Chris Brockenshire of LaPorte, Ind., is sworn in as the 108th Mayor of Boys Town, an historic post established by Father Flanagan in 1926 as a tool to build character in young people.

Brockenshire Elected 108th Mayor of Boys Town

More than 500 Boys Town youth elected Chris Brockenshire of LaPorte, Ind., the 108th mayor of the Village of Boys Town, Neb. May 6. Constance Pool of Amarillo, Texas, was elected vice mayor. Father Flanagan conceived the self-government system at the Village of Boys Town in 1926 as a tool for its citizens to build character, citizenship and a sense of community.

The 17-year old junior says he is eager to give back to Boys Town by being a leader for his fellow students. “I want to be the person my peers can come to for help,” said Brockenshire. “I want to be there to listen and solve problems.”

Brockenshire, will be assisted in his post by Constance Pool of Amarillo, Texas. As representatives of Boys Town, Brockenshire and Pool represent Boys Town s 51,000 youth nationwide.

Brockenshire has been a resident of the village since 2006. He is a member of the JROTC Cadet Corps and will serve as Corps Commander for 2008-2009. He is in National Honor Society and on the baseball and cross country teams. After graduation, Brockenshire wants to go to college for nursing and enlist in the Army. During his time in office, Brockenshire says he wants to serve as a true leader for Boys Town youth. Brockenshire’s Family-Teachers are Ned and Marcy Wempen.

Pool has been a resident of the village since 2006 and says she is eager to give back to Boys Town by being a leader for her fellow students. “My goal is to continue to encourage all students to work together to accomplish our individual and school goals,” said Pool. Following graduation, Pool plans to go into the Navy and attend college for nursing. Her Family-Teachers are Barb and John Real.
