Boys Town Nebraska youth lead attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance to open the 90th Anniversary celebration.

Grand Island Youth, Staff Celebrate Boys Town's 90 Years

Nearly 50 guests joined Boys Town Nebraska children and staff in Grand Island Dec. 12 to celebrate the organization's 90th Anniversary and learn of its future plans to help children and families.

“Ninety years is a great accomplishment,” said Dave Reed, Boys Town Nebraska Program Director. “Boys Town provides a very valuable service to this part of Nebraska.”

Father Flanagan's spirit was alive throughout the celebration. As Reed announced Boys Town's revitalized brand and tagline, a banner displaying the new image unrolled itself.

“The banner kept moving throughout my presentation and it was making me nervous,” Reed said, “but it unrolled by itself at exactly the right time.”

The 90th Anniversary also provided an opportunity for Boys Town Nebraska to announce a new program. An alternative after-school education program for elementary and high school students will begin Jan. 7.

“This is in direct response to Boys Town's strategic plan,” said Reed. “The plan allows us to evaluate the needs in our community and service those needs.”

Reed said those who attended the celebration, including Jeff Peterson, Grand Island City Administrator, reacted with enthusiasm at learning of Boys Town's plans to save children and heal families.

“None of this would be possible without our very committed staff,” emphasized Reed. “Our kids wouldn't be doing as well if our staff wasn't so committed.”
